To celebrate the 40th anniversary of Grey Gardens, your favorite high-society dropouts Big and Little Edie Bouvier Beale have gotten a face lift.
The cult classic documentary by Albert and David Maysles, which follows the lives of Jackie Onassis's reclusive cousins in their dilapidated East Hamptons mansion, has undergone a digital restoration in collaboration with the Academy Film Archive at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and will be released in limited theaters starting this month. Thousands of instances of dirt, debris, scratches, splices, warps, and jitter were manually removed—unfortunately, only from the movie. The Beales' residence however remains a glorious mess, never having benefited from a read through the best-selling home decluttering guide, The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Upby Marie Kondo.

The restoration of the 1975 film comes on the heels of the award-winning HBO television movie of the same name, starring Drew Barrymore and Jessica Lange (above). Told over the span of four decades, the film focuses on their glamorous lives long before the making of the documentary and on the circumstances behind their riches-to-rags story. We can assure you that Little Edie would be pleased. As she once said, “I like anything that is even near show business. I don’t feel well unless I’m near it.”
